Your Phone: 3 Simple Choices
Everyone chooses and purchases a ClinicMonk™ number on their first onboarding call. This starts identity verification so our team can submit your texting registration, even if you plan to move your existing number into ClinicMonk™.
Consider your options below.
Why connect your phone to ClinicMonk™?
Put your ClinicMonk™ number on your website, ads and all public-facing marketing. Calls to this number are tracked in ClinicMonk™, so you can follow up with new leads, text back and forth, and use missed-call text-back (once texting is approved and your call setup is tested). A local number is $2.30/month; usage fees apply. You don't need a toll-free number.
1. Keep your current phone provider and forward calls
Timing: choose your ClinicMonk™ number on Call 1; no number transfer needed.
You keep your current phone provider and your existing number. Your ClinicMonk™ number becomes your public number: show it everywhere, including your website, Google Business Profile, directories, ads and other marketing. Calls to your ClinicMonk™ number are forwarded to your existing phone number, so they ring on the phone system you already use, such as Google Voice. It works much like a Psychology Today number that forwards to your phone.
Anyone who already has your existing number can still call it and reach you as usual, but those calls bypass ClinicMonk™. Two-way texting and missed-call text-back are managed in ClinicMonk™.
2. Move your existing number into ClinicMonk™ (porting)
Had your number for a while and want to keep it? Porting moves your number from your current provider to ClinicMonk™, so your existing number becomes your ClinicMonk™ number. You then use ClinicMonk™ as your phone for calls and texts, in the browser, desktop or mobile app.
Porting takes a bit more time and setup than forwarding, but many practices prefer it because nothing changes for the people who already have your number. Our team helps you start it as part of your initial setup.
Timing: usually 2–4 weeks after all required documents are submitted.
Your current phone carrier must approve the transfer, so the timing depends on the carriers involved. For example, unlock your Google Voice number, then ClinicMonk™ arranges the move. Once complete, use the same number in ClinicMonk™ instead of Google Voice. Before texts can be sent, the mobile carriers must approve your business for texting.
3. Switch completely to a new ClinicMonk™ number
Timing: choose your number on Call 1; no number transfer needed.
You leave your current phone provider and number behind and use ClinicMonk™ as your practice phone for calls, two-way texting and missed-call text-back. Because this is a brand new number, you need to update it everywhere your old number appears, such as your website, listings, directories and email signature. Most practices prefer to keep their existing number, so few choose this option.
What happens on Onboarding Call 1?
Choose and purchase your ClinicMonk™ number and start the business registration needed for texting. Choose whether calls ring in ClinicMonk™ or forward to your current phone. If you want to move your existing number, we can start the porting steps with you. Porting usually takes 2–4 weeks after the required documents are submitted. You don't need to wait for a call to ask about porting: message our team in the live chat at any time, including after your onboarding calls.
When can I start using it?
Texting approval and number transfers take time; booking a call or submitting a form does not mean they are complete. Keep your current service active until the move is confirmed and tested. Before your website person changes the number, test calls, voicemail and texts with the team. Phone and text usage charges come from your ClinicMonk™ wallet, separate from your subscription.
